What We Do
Founded in Budapest by a team devoted to authenticity, Aona Matcha brings ceremonial-grade matcha directly from its source to a new generation of tea drinkers. We work with renowned tea regions and expert producers who uphold the highest standards, selecting only first-harvest leaves for exceptional purity, vibrant colour, and balanced umami. Aona represents an uncompromising pursuit of premium matcha, where quality is not a feature, but the foundation.
Our Ceremonial Grade Matcha is cultivated in the organic-certified tea regions of Jingshan and Wuyi, origins defined by heritage and discipline. Jingshan is recognised as a cradle of Song Dynasty whisked tea culture, while Wuyi holds the national designation as the “Hometown of Matcha in China” together representing a continuous lineage of powdered tea craftsmanship.
The practice of whisking finely milled tea began in China centuries ago before evolving in Japan into the matcha culture known today, our matcha honours this original tradition at its source. Produced in accordance with the Chinese national matcha standard the tea is shade-grown using established methods and selected cultivars. The first flush of early spring is carefully harvested, gently steamed to preserve freshness, and traditionally stone-milled into an exceptionally fine ceremonial powder.
Each batch undergoes independent testing for EU standards, ensuring verified purity, consistency, and quality at every stage.
